Whether you’re renovating your home or preparing for a big move, renting a dumpster will likely become necessary at some point in every homeowner’s life. Chances are you’ve never had to rent a dumpster before, so here is your how-to guide.
First, you need to decide what size is appropriate for your project. There are generally four sizes to choose from, but a mid-sized 10-yard dumpster is the most common.
If you’re working on a major renovation or clearing out an entire house, then you should consider the larger sizes. Fortunately, most companies will help you pick out a size based on the nature of your project.
Next, you should consider how long you will need the dumpster. Once again, the company will likely help you determine this. The typical span is five to seven days, but you can shorten or lengthen that time based on your needs.
Finally, pricing. This will fluctuate depending on the size, weight, and the number of days you rent it. There will be a flat fee for the rental, and extra charges if you keep the dumpster past the allotted time. Also, be sure to keep in mind that dumpster rentals give you a maximum weight, which is usually around one to two tons. Going over that weight will accrue more fees.
